Marrying DOWN! Poster

Looking at this painting should make you feel uncomfortable. That was my intent! In most cases, it is startling to become aware of new social realities. The world is different, and most young women are not aware that they are in fact the dominant gender. I painted the young adult woman as Alpha, I even designed her shadow to be larger than her male counterpart. I wanted everything in that painting to say; “She is in charge”

Our new social and cultural outcomes from the educational achievements and economic (employment) success of adult women lead us to a culture where many young adult men are now subservient to their female contemporaries.

Women have been graduating from college at a rate of 3 to every 2 males for over the last 10 years. This places women, who may decide to get married, in a new social reality. If they marry, women will, in many cases, have to settle for a man with less education and far less earning potential than they, themselves have achieved.

What does this mean? There are far fewer ‘right guys’ as compared to those available when your Mother was your age. Open your eyes ladies! Be aware! Make conscious choices, your educational and economic future is very bright, but there are limited number of quality young men surrounding you.

YOU, the adult female now controls the money, the frequency of sex, where you will live, where you will vacation, and how you and your husband will save or spend your money.

You have earned it – you are now in charge!
