A friend of mind was creating a sculpture of Icarus from Greek mythology. Icarus was the son of a master craftsman and his father built him wings of wax. Icarus could fly, but his father warned him not to fly too close to the Sun as his wings would melt. He did not listen to his father and flew close to the Sun, his wings melted and he fell into the sea and drowned.
At the moment I saw the sculpture of Icarus, I understood that Icarus was not just one man. Icarus represented thousands of men, falling all around the world, into the sea. Men who were not going to college and men who were not retraining themselves. To me Icarus falling began to symbolize men all over the world who had lost their jobs, to the advancement of technology or their jobs were outsourced to another country. Other countries, where technology will soon catch up, and eventually, those men in those other countries will also fall from the sky.
